Shakira Concert Attendees Exposed to Measles, New Jersey Officials Say

It turns out attendees at Shakira‘s recent “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran Tour” stop in New Jersey had to worry about more than just transit issues, as government officials have announced concertgoers may have been exposed to measles at the show.

On May 20th, the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) announced that an out-of-state visitor attended Shakira’s May 15th concert at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford while infected with measles. While no additional confirmed cases of measles have been reported to the NJDOH from this event, officials stated that exposed individuals could experience symptoms as late as June 6th.

Measles is a highly contagious virus, and the health department urged attendees to ensure they are up to date with the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The NJDOH directed individuals exhibiting symptoms such as rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, or red, watery eyes to contact a healthcare provider before visiting emergency rooms or urgent care facilities to help prevent potential further spread.
