Taylor Swift has had many a style evolution — and fans have breathlessly followed each one. When the “Bejeweled” singer initially stepped out in boho dresses and cowboy boots, Swifties immediately began doing the same. And when she entered her preppy early-aughts-inspired era in knee socks and miniskirts, her supporters followed suit. Over the course of her nearly 20-year career, Swift’s fashion has run the gamut from denim exercise dresses to sultry evening dresses, embellished bodysuits to date-night corsets. As far as inspiration, the 35-year-old star looks to a variety of muses, including preppy schoolgirls and early-aughts teens.
When Swift finds her uniform of sorts, she sticks with it. And the acclaimed songwriter is famous for marrying those fashion moments to eras in her career, which also coincide with her albums — the newest of which was announced on August 12 in a clip from Travis and Jason Kelce’s podcast, “New Heights.” Swift confirmed “The Life of a Showgirl” (formerly referred to as “TS12”) while wearing a simple white-button down and Sandy Liang Paris Skort, and she’s been teasing the glittery orange aesthetic of the forthcoming album ever since, even releasing a limited-edition cardigan that follows suit.
In a clip Swift posted on Sept. 29 promoting “The Life of a Showgirl: The Crowd is Your King Edition,” which will be available at Target, she sported Agolde Vana jeans with a folded waistband, a black top, and oversize blazer to hilariously direct the showgirl version of herself through rehearsals. “She’s got 4️⃣ days left to rehearse for her big moment… 😂” the caption reads. Lucky for Swifties, the jeans are still available on multiple retail sites.
During Swift’s award-winning Eras Tour, fans recreated past aesthetics with their concert outfits. Drawing from the most iconic Swift outfits, attendees embraced the snake theme as a nod to her “Reputation” era or gold sequins to reference her “Midnights” era. Meanwhile, Swift’s own looks for star-studded events, like the VMAs or the Met Gala, are decidedly more high end. Take her Oscar de la Renta dress at the 2022 MTV VMAs, which is runway ready and glamorous, like most of Swift’s red carpet outfits.
It helps that the superstar loves to wear accessible fashion brands. Swift’s street style looks often include a piece or two from retailers her fans shop from often, including Reformation (hence her orange crew top in the above clip), LoveShackFancy, Sandy Liang, and Agolde. Ahead, shop her latest look and find ways to pull it off on a budget, then take a walk down memory lane with Swift’s fashion moments over the years.
